WineInspector Magazine 2016 Edition including all the tastings of 2015
The newest edition is online finally. Many things changed in the last year, which prevent me from publishing this magazine sooner. At the same time the magazine changed too. I tried to make the rating system more transparent by not only showing an overall rating, but the categories which lead to it. Click on the magazine or simply here to find interesting wines.

Wine of the month (August) - THE Recommendation! - Domaine du Closel Clos du Papillon 2011
These days we refresh WineInspector. In the last three years, we changed many things, but some things have fallen by the wayside. In the future this blog will be less neutral and more emotional. For neutral tastings, we offer the WineInspector Magazine. I hope you like the blog's new style.
There are many great wines in the world, but when I rate one of them with 90 or even more points, it doesn't mean, that I like him. Sometimes structure and precision impress me, but I would never buy it for me. But of course there are some wines, I really like, independently from the rating. Some of them, I only like in certain vintages, other ones I like in nearly every year. Today I show you one of my all time favourites: The Clos du Papillon of Domaine du Closel. I liked every vintage I tasted, but this year, it is pure love. The 2011 vintage may not be the best vintage of Clos du Papillon you have ever seen, but it is the one, I love the most.
Domaine du Closel Clos du Papillon AOC 2011:
The Clos du Papillon is always a highlight for me. It
matured 24 months in barriques and appears bright straw yellow in colour with
golden glints. The 2011 vintage is really stunning. Its style is somewhere
between the 2008 vintage on the one hand and 2009 and 2010 vintages on the
other hand. The bouquet is very creamy and sweet and gives you the feel of
Savennières’ origins: an appellation of predominantly sweet wines. Being
drybone on the palate, it represents the modern Savennières style there. The
2011 vintage is very complex. Expressive flavours of apricot, almond and white
flowers intermixed with honey, lemon, wood and deep minerality go perfectly
hand in hand. The vibrant acidity is always present and gives the wine an
overwhelming dynamic from the beginning to the end. Full bodied, well-balanced
and a long aftertaste. I highly recommend this beauty! It is one of my all-time
favourites. Drink: 2014-2024.
Rating: 91+ points.

Wine of the month (December): Nik Weis St. Urbans-Hof Laurentiuslay QbA GG 2012
In the November Edition of the WineInspector Magazine, we focussed predominantly on German wines. There were lots of very good wines, but one standed out because of its precision, structure and depth.
Nik
Weis St. Urbans-Hof Laurentiuslay QbA GG 2012:
The 2012 Laurentiuslay GG (100% Riesling) is straw
yellow in colour. In the nose a fine bouquet with intense, deep and
concentrated flavours of apple, yeast, stone, grapefruit and a touch of
sulphur. On the palate it shows, why it is the best wine of the ones we tested:
Intense and precise aromas of apple, yeast, lemon, grapefruit, flowers and
stone go hand in hand. Medium bodied, vibrant acidity and a long aftertaste. Good
buy! Drink: 2013-2023.
Rating: 91 points.
Hand in Hand.

First of all: What is a "deep tasting"? Under this category we give you the tasting notes of the first days after the bottle has been opened.
Today we take a look at "La Paroisse Grand Vin de Bordeaux AOC 2009", a very cheap Bordeaux for 7,60€ (~ $10) only.
1st day:
On the first day the La Paroisse is a bit reticent. Merlot and Petit Verdot dominate nose and mouth. The wine appears very fresh and fine-aromatic. Very unbalanced and slightly green, superficial tannins. Needs time to breathe. But the structure seems to be hopeful.
Rating: 84 points.
WineInspector-Wertung: 84
2nd day:
For many wines, which spended 1-2 years in barrels, the second day is the low point. But La Paroisse is different here:
This
blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot) is deep dark red in colour.
In the nose it exhibits a soft and fresh bouquet with relatively precise
flavours of cherry, plum, currant, jalapeno and fine spices. On the palate it
offers good density and freshness with intense and polished aromas of cherry,
raspberry, mirabelle, jalapeno and a touch of plum, sustained by fresh acidity
and well-integrated tannins. Medium to full bodied, well-balanced and a good
finish. Best buy! Drink: 2016-2023.
Rating:
87 points.

3rd day:
After the great second day, it loses balance again. The Cabernet is dominating nose and mouth. The La Paroisse loses concentration, precision, tannins and freshness. Its time to empty the bottle.
Rating: 85 points.
WineInspector-Wertung: 85
4th day:
Last chance of any enjoyment! The wine is wide open and not very concentrated anymore. Jalapeno is so much dominating, that it seems to be one-dimensionally. Nevertheless, there are notes of cherry and raspberry. The balance is gone.
Rating: 83 points.
WineInspector-Wertung: 83
Conclusion:
La Paroisse is a very nice wine. For 7,60€ (~ $10) it offers a good quality, but is not made for the long-term. What's more, older vintages (2006 or 2007) could be interesting, because the 2009 still needs 2-3 years for full ripeness.
Because of the rising number of (high) quality wines, Priorato is a region with growing attention. For people, who would like to take a look at it, we recommend this beauty:
This blend (50% Carinena, 20% Granacha, 15% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5 Syrah) is dark violet in the glass, almost black. In
the nose polished flavours of (sour) cherry, plum and liquorice. On the palate
good polish and density with cherry, plum and liquorice, sustained by fresh
acidity. Very "dirty-styled" on the following days. Medium to full bodied, soft tannins and a good aftertaste. Best buy!
Drink: 2013-2020.
Rating: 91 points.
If you liked the entry level, the Casa Gran del Siurana Gran Cruor (2007) or the Cims de Porrera "Classic" Caranyena / "Classic" Garnatxa should be your next choice. Enjoy!

Wine of the month (October): Château Kefraya Comte de M 2009
The 2009 Comte de M (Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah)
matured for 16 months in fine-grained French oak barrels (85% new wood, 15% one
year old). It appears ruby in the glass. In the nose a complex bouquet with
beguiling flavours of iron, pepper, leather, black currant and vanilla. On the
palate very soft structured with meat, blueberry and leather intermixed with
delicate notes of jalapeno, milk chocolate and vanilla. Full bodied, present,
but soft tannins, a good extract and a long aftertaste. Good buy! Drink: 2016-2023.
Rating: 93 points.
