Wine of the month (January): Bodegas Maurodos San Roman DO 2010




Bodegas Maurodos San Román DO 2010:
The 2010 San Roman (100% Tempranillo) matured for two
years in French and American oak barrels and appears deep black in colour with violet and cherry red reflexes in the glass. In the nose it offers relatively polished flavours of blueberry, plum, mirabelle and vanilla paired with wild berries, violets and milk chocolate. On the palate it exhibits precise and expressive aromas of cherry, plum and blueberry intermixed with wild berries, vanilla, stone flour and milk chocolate, sustained by soft, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Full bodied, complex, great balanced and a long und intense aftertaste. Rare buy! Drink: 2014-2026.

Der 2010er San Roman (100% Tempranillo) reifte zwei Jahre lang in französischer und amerikanischer Eiche und erscheint in tiefem Schwarz mit violetten und kirschroten Reflexen im Glas. In der Nase recht geschliffene Düfte nach Blaubeere, Pflaume, Mirabelle und Vanille, gepaart mit Waldbeeren, Veilchen und Vollmilchschokolade. Im Mund präzise und expressive Aromen von Kirsche, Pflaume und Blaubeere sowie Waldbeeren, Vanille, Steinmehl und Vollmilchschokolade, gestützt von weichen und feinkörnigen Tanninen sowie frischer Säure. Voller Körper, komplex, wunderbar ausbalanciert sowie ein langer und intensiver Abgang.

Meroni Il Velluto Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2005:
This blend (Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Molinara) matured for five years in Slavonian oak barrels and is ruby in colour with brown reflexes. In the nose beguiling flavours of cherry, sandal wood, herbs and orange. On the palate black cherry, herbs and sandal wood, sustained by concealed tannins. Medium to full bodied, perfect-balanced and a long aftertaste. Best buy! Drink: 2013-2038.

Meroni Il Velluto Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2005:
Diese Cuvée (Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Molinara) reifte 5 Jahre lang in Fässern aus slawonischer Eiche und ist rubinrot mit braunen Reflexen. In der Nase betörende Düfte von Kirsche, Sandelholz, Kräutern und Orange. Im Mund Schwarzkirsche, Kräuter und Sandelholz, gestützt von fast versteckten Tanninen. Mittlerer bis voller Körper, perfekte Balance und ein langer Abgang.

This blend (45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot) matured for 24 months in French oak barriques and is deep dark red in the glass. In the nose flavours of black bread, caramel, thyme and a hint of glue. On the palate well-balanced with black bread, thyme and cherry. Full bodied, soft tannins and a long aftertaste. Good buy! Drink. 2013-2026.

Monteverro Toskana IGT 2009:
Dieser Verschnitt (45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot 10% Petit Verdot) reifte 24 Monate lang in Fässern aus französischer Eiche und erscheint in tief dunklem Rot im Glas. In der Nase Düfte nach Schwarzbrot, Karamell, Thymian und etwas Leim. Am Gaumen harmonisch mit Schwarzbrot, Thymian und Kirsche. Voller Körper, weiche Tannine und ein langer Abgang.

Tenuta Il Greppo Biondi Santi Annata Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2008:
36 months in Salvonian oak. Ruby coloured in the centre with orange reflexes at the edge. In the nose wet wood and meat. On the palate soft with cherry, subtle herbs and meat. Medium to full bodied, well-integrated tannins and a long finish. Compared to other 2008 Brunellos very young and open. Good buy! Drink: 2013-2025.

Tenuta Il Greppo Biondi Santi Annata Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2008:
36 Monate in slawonischer Eiche. Im Kern rubinrot, orange Reflexe am Rand. In der Nase nasses Holz und Fleisch. Am Gaumen weich mit Kirsche, feine Kräutern und Fleisch. Mittlerer bis voller Körper, gut integrierte Tannine und ein langes Finale. Im Gegensatz zu anderen 2008er Brunellos sehr jung und zugänglich.

Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva „Poggio Al Vento“ DOCG 2004:
Only 1500 bottles have been made of this beauty. The “Poggio Al Vento” (100% Sangiovese) matured for 48 months in Slavonian and French oak casks, two years in the bottle and is ruby in colour. A complex bouquet with meat, cherry, pepper, mocha and vanilla, after a certain time spices and sage. On the palate cherry and pepper intermixed with spices and vanilla. Medium to full bodied, soft tannins and a long aftertaste. Still a bit passive. Good buy! Drink: 2016-2025.

Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva „Poggio Al Vento“ DOCG 2004:
Es existieren nur 1500 Flaschen von diesem Wein. Der „Poggio Al Vento“ (100% Sangiovese) reifte 48 Monate in slawonischen und französischen Eichenfässern sowie zwei Jahre auf der Flasche und weist eine rubinrote Farbe auf. Ein komplexes Bouquet mit Fleisch, Pfeffer, Mokka und Vanille, später Gewürze und Salbei. Im Mund Kirsche und Pfeffer sowie Gewürze und Vanille. Mittlerer bis voller Körper, weiche Tannine und ein langer Abgang. Noch etwas passiv.

Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Prestige AOC 2010:
The 2010 Cuvée Prestige (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault) matured in Foudre and in Demi-Muids and has more of everything compared to the 2009 vintage. In the nose a massive bouquet with flavours of black berry, wild berries and blueberry intermixed with plum, prune, mirabelle, caramel, herbal notes and sawdust. On the palate it offers great balance, succulence, complexity and softness with plum, blueberry, prune, stone fruit, mirabelle, herbs and slight minerality. Medium to full bodied, silky tannins and a good lenghth in the aftertaste. Best buy! Drink: 2016-2029.

Die 2010er Cuvée Prestige (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault) reifte sowohl in Foudres als auch in Demi-Muids und bietet in allen Belangen mehr als der 2009er Jahrgang. In der Nase ein massives Bouquet mit mit Düften nach Brombeere, Waldbeeren und Blaubeere sowie Pflaume, Mirabelle, Karamell, Kräuternoten und Sägespäne. Im Mund bietet die Cuvée Prestige großartige Balance, Saftigkeit, Komplexität und Weichheit mit Pflaume, Blaubeere, Trockenpflaume, Steinobst, Mirabelle, Kräuternoten und leichte Mineralität. Mittlerer bis voller Körper, seidige Tannine und eine gute Länge im Abgang.

Niepoort Vintage Bioma Vinha Velha DOC 2011 [Cask Sample]:
This beauty has been composed of Sousao, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao, Tinta Francisca, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional from over 80 years old vines and matured for several months in pipas (550L). It appears dark violet in the glass and offers intense and sweet flavours of mint, leather, plum, wild berries as well as a touch of orange in the nose. On the palate expressive waves of wild berries, plum and blueberry fill the mouth. Medium bodied, perfect integrated tannins and a long aftertaste. Best buy! Drink: 2013-2035.

Niepoort Vintage Bioma Vinha Velha DOC 2011 [Fassprobe]:
Dieses Prachtexemplar wurde aus den Rebsorten Sousao, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao, Tinta Francisca, Touriga Francesa und Touriga Nacional von über 80 Jahre alten Reben verschnitten und reifte mehrere Monate in Pipas (550L Holzfässer). Dunkles Violett im Glas. Intensive und süße Düfte nach Minze, Leder, Pflaume, Waldbeeren sowie ein Hauch von Orange in der Nase. Im Mund füllen expressive Wellen von Waldbeeren, Pflaume und Blaubeere den Mund aus. Mittlerer Körper, perfekt integrierte Tannine und ein langer Abgang.

Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón DO 2009:
This blend has been made from 93% Tinto Fino, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot. Like the Crianza it matured for 12 months in French oak barriques. It is deep dark red in colour and reveals a complex bouquet with wet wood, a hint of orange, cherry and sandal wood. On the palate it exhibits great depth, complexity and density: aromas of sandal wood, coffee, dark chocolate and plum, sustained by good, but slightly hard tannins. Full bodied, good extract and a good length in the aftertaste. Still a bit reticent, but power and finesse already shine through. After 4-5 days very expressive with intense butter, coffee, mocha, tobacco and caramel. Great quality over days. Best buy! Drink: 2016-2022.

Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón DO 2009:
Diese Cuvée wurde aus 93% Tinto Fino, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon und 1% Merlot vinifiziert. Wie schon die Crianza reifte auch der El Anejón 12 Monate in französischen Barriques. Er erscheint in tief dunklem Rot und besitzt ein komplexes Bouquet mit nassem Holz, etwas Orange, Kirsche und Sandelholz. Im Mund brilliert er mit viel Tiefe, Komplexität und Dichte: Aromen von Sandelholz, Kaffee, dunkler Schokolade und Pflaume, gestützt von guten, aber noch etwas harten Tanninen. Voller Körper, guter Extrakt und gute Länge im Abgang. Noch etwas geschlossen, aber Kraft und Finesse scheinen bereits durch. Nach 4-5 Tagen sehr expressiv mit intensiven Noten von Butter, Kaffee, Mokka, Tabak und Karamell. Großartige Qualität über Tage.

Tenuta Il Greppo Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2007:
This Sangiovese matured for three years in Slavonian oak barrels. It appears ruby in the glass. A complex bouquet with flavours of meat, wood and cherry intermixed with herbs and pine-cone. On the palate the 2007 Riserva exhibits terrific volume and expression with aromas of cherry, vanilla, toast and smoke paired with plum, slight lemon, strawberry and floral notes. After some days more expressive. Full bodied, concealed tannins and a long aftertaste. Good buy! Drink: 2017-2035.

Tenuta Il Greppo Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2007:
Dieser Sangiovese reifte drei Jahre lang in Fässern aus slawonischer Eiche und erscheint in rubinroter Farbe im Glas. Ein komplexes Bouquet mit Düften nach Fleisch, Holz und Kirsche sowie Kräutern und Tannenzapfen. Am Gaumen zeigt die 2007er Riserva fantastisches Volumen und Ausdruckskraft mit Aromen von Kirsche, Vanille, Toast und Rauch, gepaart mit Pflaume, feiner Zitrone, Erdbeere und floralen Noten. Nach ein paar Tagen noch expressiver. Voller Körper, fast verborgene Tannine und ein langes Finale.

This sleeper (Sousao, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional from grapes older than 80 years) matured for 2 years in both toneis (30.000L barrels) and pipas (550L barrels) and appears dark violet in colour. In the nose intense, concentrated and deep flavours of plum, violets and pepper intermixed with liquorice, wild berries and blueberry. On the palate it shows great expression, polish and finesse with plum, blueberry, pepper and violets; mineral notes in the background. The sweetness is perfect integrated, leading to a great balanced, complete rounded wine. Medium to full bodied, soft tannins and a long finish. A monument. Rare buy! Drink: 2016-2045.

Dieser Schläfer (Sousao, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa und Touriga Nacional von über 80 Jahre alten Reben) reifte zwei Jahre lang sowohl in Toneis (30.000L Holzfässer) als auch in Pipas (550L Holzfässer) und erscheint in dunklem Violett im Glas. In der Nase intensive, konzentrierte und tiefe Aromen von Pflaume, Veilchen und Pfeffer sowie Lakritze, Waldbeeren und Blaubeere. Im Mund zeigt er viel Ausdruckskraft, Schliff und Finesse mit Pflaume, Blaubeere, Pfeffer und Veilchen, mineralische Noten im Hintergrund. Die Süße ist perfekt integriert, womit der Wein sehr gut ausbalanciert und wie aus einem Guss wirkt. Mittlerer bis voller Körper, weiche Tannine und ein langes Finale. Ein Monument.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is deep dark red in colour. In the nose very complex and intense with beguiling flavours of cherry, black cherry, iron, wet autumn foliage and leather. On the palate it combines plenty of power and finesse: polished aromas of cherry, black cherry, iron, coffee and a touch of toast, sustained by silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Full bodied, perfect balance and a long aftertaste. A fascinating wine, that will be even better in a few years. Rare buy! Drink: 2015-2025.

Pian Dell’Orino Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2006:
Der 2006er Brunello di Montalcino erscheint in tief dunklem Rot im Glas. In der Nase sehr komplex und intensiv mit betörenden Düften nach Kirsche, Schwarzkirsche, Eisen, nassem Herbstlaub und Leder. Im Mund vereint er unglaublich viel Kraft und Finesse: wie geschliffene Aromen von Kirsche, Schwarzkirsche, Eisen, Kaffee und Anklänge von Toast, gestützt von seidigen Tanninen und lebhafter, erfrischender Säure. Voller Körper, perfekte Balance und ein langer Abgang. Ein faszinierender Wein, der in ein paar Jahren sogar noch besser sein wird.
